What do Meghan Markle, Emma Watson, Kendal Jenner and Katie Holmes have in common? VEJA sneakers, that’s what! Veja has always been known as an environmentally-friendly fashion brand, but now it’s moving from the style runway and onto the actual running track, with the launch of its world first post-petroleum running shoe, The Condor.
The Condor has come about after four long years of research and development. Using innovative materials, The Condor is made with a majority recycled materials. The upper part of the running trainer is made from 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles, with the midsole using 55 per cent regular EVA rubber and 45 per cent bio-based materials, including ricinus (vegetable) oil, banana oil, sugar cane and rice husks, all waste byproducts from the food industry.
The inspiration for the shoe, its biomimetic design and its name, came from the eponymous South American bird’s lightness in movement and flexibility in flight.
If this isn’t enough to inspire you, this vegan, ecological running shoe is made in Brazil in a factory that respects the workers’ rights and the environment is absolutely the heart and soul (or should we say sole!) of this trainer.
VEJA’s first step into the running world and is available in six colours/styles making it not only environmentally friendly but also versatile and stylish. Well done VEJA – we’re looking forward to giving them a run for their money.
