As anyone who knows me can tell you, I am not a cook by any means. If given the choice, ordering food always wins out over the palaver of going to the shops for groceries, deciphering a recipe, then having to wait for the food to cook. But, as we all know, ordering food can be very expensive, costing the average Australian household $100 per week – and that’s on top of your regular food shop. Not only that, you may end up getting the same meal again and again simply because the vegan options can be very limited, to say the least.
So, when offered the chance to try Soulara, a new 100% plant-based meal delivery service, I was over the moon. Healthy vegan meals prepared for me and delivered right to my door? Sign me up!
Good variety, good for you
What I immediately noticed was the sheer range of savoury food, sweet food, and drinks. With currently over 40 different items on the menu, Soulara does not disappoint with the choices on offer. They use a wide range of ingredients, including fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and other superfoods, to create interesting taste combinations that are also great for your health. Each meal is carefully considered by chefs and dieticians for its nutritional value and health benefits, ensuring that you get all the vitamins and minerals you need to feel your best.
My favourite Soulara meals include the Healing Turmeric soup (hearty and nourishing – the perfect thing to warm you up on a winter’s day), the Sunkissed Pesto (tasty as well as rich in antioxidants), and the Choco Delights (made with dates and cacao powder, these balls of goodness are sure to satisfy any dessert cravings you have).
Soulara has several different meal plans on offer ranging from nine to eighteen meals a week, so it’s easy to find a plan that works for you. They currently deliver to NSW, SA, QLD, VIC, ACT and Darwin, and each meal comes ready to go – no cooking or preparation required. This was perfect for someone like me who is cooking impaired. Simply heat in the microwave for a few minutes and you’ll have wholesome and delicious food ready to eat.
Food with a conscience
Vegan and founder of Soulara Yuki Thomas says she wants to “make plant-based living easy, delicious, nutritious, and possible.” With a company name derived from a combination of the word ‘soul’ and the Latin word for ‘sun,’ Yuki’s vision to create food that is nurturing for mind, body and soul shines through in every meal. The ingredients are all super fresh and sourced from local Australian growers, with the aim of creating a sustainable future.
Not only is food ethically sourced, the packaging is also highly conscious of sustainability. All of the packaging, from the box the food arrives in to the individual meal containers, is 100% recyclable. Furthermore, Soulara is working to make the switch to biodegradable packaging in the near future – yet another reason to be impressed.
Whether you are supporting a transition into a plant-based diet, wanting an easy way to eat ethically, or just looking for healthy, convenient meals, Soulara is a fantastic service and one that is greatly needed in our time-poor society. Their food tastes great and makes you feel great about it – we can’t get enough!
