Oscar-winning director James Cameron and Formula One racing star Lewis Hamilton have teamed up to make a documentary about plant-based vegan diets in sports.

The film, The Game Changers, which has been described as “dramatic, powerful and amazing” also lists Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan as co producers, and will feature several other elite-level athletes, including tennis world number one, Novak Djokovic.

It will explore their decisions to switch to plant-based diets and look at the rise of veganism among top level athletes, as part of a quest for the truth about meat, protein, and strength.

The film’s host, James Wilks, is an elite Special Forces trainer and UFC fighter. His journey exposes out-dated myths about food that not only affect human performance, but the health of the entire global population.

Wilks talks to the elite group of world-renowned athletes and scientists, exposing how everything he had been taught about protein was a lie.

Hamilton certainly knows his stuff, having switched to a plant-based diet in 2017. He says he’s “healthier and happier than ever ” thanks to becoming a vegan. He’s even attributed the changes he made to his diet as a factor in to helping him win his last two world championships.

“It was interesting, I thought, to see other people’s perspectives,” Hamilton told Motorsport magazine. “I’ve gone along the same journey as some of the people that are in there, who have achieved another level of physical fitness and peak. Just look at Djokovic, that little extra bit that’s there that people are reluctant to look in to.”

The Game Changers premieres on September 16 and is in cinemas for a limited time. Watch the trailer here.
