On Friday, New Jersey Democrat Senator Cory Booker threw his hat into the ring for his bid at Presidency. He also happens to be the first vegan senator to ever do so and notably, is the only vegan serving in the Senate.

A long standing advocate of plant-based, cruelty-free eating, Sen. Booker commented in a speech at  VegFest: “I’ll tell you this: the vegan consciousness is growing in our country and all those people, regardless of your diet, you are conscious of the environment, conscious of justice for animals, against cruelty to animals, conscious of your health.”

Whether successful or not, his bid will continue to raise awareness of veganism and its benefits (to animals, humans and the planet). With a personal Twitter following of 4.13 million, Sen. Booker’s a prolific tweeter and considered to be one of the first true social media influencers in politics – applauded for his willingness to respond to all those who tweet him. Other social platforms including Snapchat and Instagram have also been used to extend his campaign and cause related messages.

From criminal justice issues and economic inequality to addressing climate change and decriminalising marijuana, Sen. Booker has a proven track record for standing up for what he believes in. Given the current political climate, his views on equality and compassion for all living creatures is something the world needs more of! Go Sen. Booker. You have our vote!
