The Estée Lauder Companies have joined the #BeCrueltyFree campaign, the largest effort in history to end cosmetic animal testing globally.

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers and marketers of quality skin care, makeup, fragrance and hair care products, Estée Lauder Companies products are sold in over 150 countries under more than 25 brand names including Estée Lauder, Aramis, Clinique, Origins, Tommy Hilfiger, M·A·C, La Mer, Bobbi Brown, Donna Karan New York, Aveda, Jo Malone London, Michael Kors, Tom Ford, BECCA and Too Faced.

The #BeCrueltyFree campaign is led by Humane Society International (HSI), one of the world’s largest animal protection organizations. The campaign has helped shape cosmetics animal testing and sale bans in nearly 40 countries by working with federal legislators, regulators and corporates to ensure that all newly manufactured cosmetics are both safe and cruelty-free.

Of the partnership, Anna Klein, senior vice president, Global Corporate Affairs for The Estée Lauder Companies, said: “We are proud to partner with Humane Society International, an organization that has done such thoughtful work advocating for animals everywhere.”

So does this mean The Estée Lauder Companies products are vegan? Well… almost. While The Estée Lauder Companies was one of the first cosmetics companies to eliminate animal testing, does not test its products on animals or ask others to do so on its behalf, it does however acknowledge its brands are sold in countries where animal testing on cosmetics or cosmetic ingredients is required by law.

In the meantime, Kitty Block, president of Humane Society International, says: “Animal testing is last century’s science, but to legislate it out of existence requires us to join forces with forward-looking industry leaders like The Estée Lauder Companies.” She adds: “I’m confident that by working together with beauty companies through our #BeCruelty campaign, we can help bring an end to cosmetics testing on animals by 2023.”
