It’s getting colder and the desire to stay stylish is tempered by the need for warmth. We’ve put together a simple plan to get your wardrobe through the winter months – oh, and it’s sustainable and cruelty free!

Here’s our 7 fashion staples for winter:

1. Camel coloured coat – Most people who buy a winter coat will go for black but this can be tricky to wear with other colours. So break from the norm and bag yourself a camel coloured outer layer.

SHOP: 1. Atmos&here – Valerie Coat, $129.95 2. The Fifth Label – Go To Coat, $139.95 (on sale for $98)  3. Calli – Daniella Trench Coat, $129.95 (on sale for $91)

2. Lightweight turtleneck – Love layering? This is key to any wardrobe and will help you go seamlessly from winter into spring. A turtleneck can be worn under dresses or vests, and teamed with high waisted trousers to look super chic.

SHOP: 1. Privilege – Seam Detail Top, $105 2. Polo Ralph Lauren – Long Sleeve Turtle Neck, $149  3. Paris Georgia – Standard Issue Turtle Neck, $379

3. High waisted jeans – No matter what shape you are, this is always the most flattering cut of denim. The skinny jean doesn’t dominate this winter (though we’ve picked a few here as they look great teamed with a slouchy boot), with many new cuts coming into play from straight to super high and slight flare (keep any eye out for our denim collection next week).

SHOP: 1.Dricoper Denim – DCD High-Waisted Jeans, $139.95 2. Abrand – A ’94 High Slim Jeans, $129,95  3. Abercrombie & Fitch, Super-Skinny Simone High Rise Jeans, $159.95

4. Checked pants – Like it or not, we are seeing a comeback of the plaid print. Check out How To Wear It in our shop but for now, click this link and get ahead of this trend. Great worn with a turtle neck, long coat, oversized cardigan or biker jacket. And don’t forget, mixing your patterns and prints is totally acceptable.

SHOP: 1. Reiss – Joanne Check Slim Trousers, $250 / $175 2. Top Shop – Molly Check Cigarette Trousers, $84.95 (on sale for $59.47) 3. Miss Selfridge Petite – Check Paperbag Trousers, $69.95 (on sale for $48.97)

5. Romantic dress – This versatile little number is always a staple, but most girls only bring it out for summer. We suggest working it back by layering it with your turtle neck or other long sleeve items in your wardrobe, or simply teaming it with a faux leather biker jacket to give it an edge.

SHOP: 1. Cooper Street – Elements Long Sleeve Midi Dress, $219.95 2. We Are Kindred – Frenchie Slip Dress, $199 (on sale for $120) 3. Trenery – Floral Lotus Print Dress, $179 (on sale for $79.95)

6. Tote bag – Bags will come and go but the good old tote is a life-long plan. Not just for practical reasons (because you can fit a few changes of clothing into it) but because it always works with any outfit and makes a style statement all of its own.

SHOP: 1. Gunas – Kangaroo Saffiano, $236.64 2. Gunas – Naomi, $207.96 3. Matt & Nat – Simoni Satchel Bag Black, $175

7. Slouchy boots – An absolute must for both your toes and style. Let’s face it, we never regret buying boots. If you’re only purchasing one pair then go for a slouchy style that can sit over trousers and under dresses. (Check out our Boot Collection for other suggestions).

SHOP: 1. Beyond Skin – Anna Chestnut High Heel Vegan Slouch Boots, $526 2. Novo – Kisha, $99.95 3. Therapy – Felicia, $99.95 (on sale for $49.95)
